What is the margin width recommended for PFZ chamfer?

0.5 mm

1.0 mm

For a PFZ margin, you want enough tooth reduction at the finish line to reliably support the porcelain veneer while keeping the tooth structure conservative. A chamfer width of about 1.0 mm provides that balance: it gives enough space for the porcelain at the margin and a clean, well-seated margin for cementation, without removing excessive tooth structure.

A margin that’s only 0.5 mm can be too shallow to support the marginal porcelain thickness and cement, increasing the risk of veneer fracture or marginal leakage. On the other hand, margins as wide as 1.5–2.0 mm remove more tooth structure than necessary and can unnecessarily weaken the tooth and complicate esthetics and fit. So, 1.0 mm is the optimal, commonly recommended width for PFZ chamfer margins.
